Designers, Start Building
Most things I design don’t happen in Figma anymore. Sure, I’ll sketch something out there or on my Remarkable every now and then, but that’s about it.
It’s easier than ever to figure out if your ideas actually work: just build them. Dive into an IDE and start coding with AI agents helping you. The big question everyone keeps asking: should designers code? Yes. The answer is yes now. Design has changed.
I won’t hire designers who don’t code or at least use AI to design in code. There’s no way to know if your design actually works by looking at static screens. You can hook up a clickable prototype, but that still isn’t real validation. It needs to work in the browser, with real interactions, real performance, real constraints.
